NSS Labs published the latest results of a test that evaluated the vulnerability of web browser to socially engineered malware. IE9 won by a clear margin.
NSS Labs published the latest results for its occasionally controversial malware survey for the thrid quarter of this year. the global results show that IE9 blocked 99.2% of socially engineered malware, Chrome 12 blocked 13.2% (up from 3% for Chrome 6 in Q2 2010), Safari 5 blocked 7.6% (11% in Q2 2010), Firefox 4 7.6% (19% for Firefox 3.6.15) and Opera 11 blocked 6.1% (0% for Opera 10).
IE9 also won the response time contest to block newly discovered malware. NSS said that it took Microsoft 0.56 hours/2.85 hours (without and with App Reputation) on average to activate a block. Safari 5 required 4.91 hours, Firefox 4 6.07 hours, Chrome 12 17.64 hours and Opera 11 18.39 hours.
NSS used 1188 malware websites for its test.
