So Windows 8 developer preview is out and many Mac users may want to take it for a test spin using a virtual machine. Well it seems to install with Parallels 7 but we’ll give you a few warnings before you proceed.
Do not install Parallels Tools. It is a bit laggy. Very few apps work. Make sure you check the
system requirements.
We suggest watching the video demo at the bottom before proceeding and of course, proceed at your own risk.
• Download Windows 8 dev preview 32-bit
here, 64-bit
here.
• Open Parallels 7 and create a new virtual machine using a DVD or image file
• Choose to install from a disc image and select the Windows 8 ISO
• Install will not detect the version of Windows so just choose “Windows 7″
• Uncheck “This version requires a product key”
• If you’re installing 64-bit, be sure to check the box
• Name it and continue through the menus making customizations to the virtual machine if you wish
• Once it’s installing it will take quite some time, just sit back or go do something until the startup screen appears
• It will attempt to keep installing Windows 7 even though it is done, once you can see the Metro UI, in the menu bar under “Installation” click “Continue Manually”
