Inside Windows 8: Settings

Now there are some interesting changes in what you can get to from the charms bar in the desktop.

You get different options when the menu pops out from the right depending on whether you are in Metro or the desktop.

In the desktop, you get access to Control Panel, Personalization, PC info and Help.


Settings in the desktop

Lets start with Control Panel.

Here's a look at the standard Control Panel screen. Nothing to see here, I'll cover that later.

Next, it has a Personalization screen.

The usual here - Desktop Background, Windows Color, Sounds and Screen Saver.


Personalization

Now for PC Info.

This is shown as "System" in the menu.

You can see all the standard information about your PC's performance rating here.

It shows processor, system type etc..

Finally, under Help, this is the screen you see.

A more advanced help screen with a search bar, and a few prompted topics.
