I downloaded both x86 and x64 last night and have performed a CLEAN install of x86 on a test system. This installation took 26 minutes from start to finish (no restart was required) and was 8GB (no updates or software installed at this point).
After changing my WORKGROUP and entering my IP address, and DNS addresses I rebooted the computer. I was amazed at how fast it rebooted 20 seconds to be exact.
I used the activator riso posted, Option 2 and Option 3, and here are my findings,
1.) After Option 2 was completed I was ask to reboot so I did
2.) After rebooting the watermark appeared Windows 7 Evaluation Copy Build 7600
I ran Option 3, it contains numerous options for your selection, I chose
a) Remove Watermark
b) Install 32 bit Key
c) Activate Online

I have since installed MSE which requires Validation and it passed without a problem. I hope this Helps answers some of the many questions surrounding the question of activating your copy of Windows 7
