Why Lock screen is introduced to Windows 8?

Lock screen is something you are familiar when you are using a smartphone or tablet. Windows 8 is designed for desktops as well as for tablets. Therefore, it is quite essential to have a lock screen to stop entering commands accidentally in mobile devices. Is it quite useful to have enable it on a desktop computer?
How to enable/disable Windows 8 Lock screenLike I mentioned before, if you are using a desktop you may need to disable it. Go to Group policy editor and under
Personalization folder got to
User Configuration >
Administrative Templates >
Control Panel >
Personalization and enable Do not display the lock screen to disable lock screen.
How to change the Windows 8 Lock screen background imageYou can select different backgrounds for the lock screen from the PC settings. Go to
Lock screen tab under
Personalize and you can either select a different background image from the default images or select on of your own background by clicking
browse and select the image you want. Make sure lock screen image resolution is 1920×1200 for better quality.

How to add/remove Lock screen appsYou can choose special apps to run in the background and show status and notifications in the lock screen. For example it can display new messages, number of unread emails, calender notifications. you can click on the plus + button and select an app from the list to add an app to the lock screen. To remove an app simply click on the app and select Don’t show quick status here.

How to Choose an app to display detailed status or don’t show detailed statusJust like you add a app to display the status, you can add an app to display a detailed status. Click the plus (+) button and select an app will enable this feature. Click on the enabled feature and select
Don’t show detailed status on the lock screen to disable it.

How to revert to default settingsIf you think you have done many changes and your lock screen settings becoming messy, you can set it to default settings by going to PC settings right click on the lock screen image and select
Revert to defaults.
Lock screen keyboard shortcuts» You can use pretty much any key including space bar, tab, caps Lock, shift to move from lock screen to the log in page. Remember Windows key will not work.
