When you upgrade to Window 8 from Windows 7 The Window 8 upgrade removes the Windows 7 operating system.

Now some people would like to install Windows 8 in a separate partition so the they have both windows 7 and Windows 8.

The question is how can that be done?

One of the ideas is to install Windows 8 Release Preview in a separate partition and then upgrade that to Windows 8.

Would it work? Any problems which may arise?

The easy way to do it is to install WIN XP ( if you still have the CD and the Key) in a separate partition and then upgrade to Windows 8. This would be absolutely as per the EULA.

In this it is reported that if you use the Microsoft download you will get only a 32 bit version. May be you could download a 64 bit version separately and install it using the Key obtained from MS.

I can confirm that my Windows 8 upgrade key work when I did a clean install. I just boot from my 64-bit DVD, type in the product key and the installer said:
"Your product key works"

It installed and activated my license and now I have a fresh install of Windows 8.

I too have just completed the process of a clean install of Windows 8 Pro on my laptop. Am now in the process of making it the way I had the leaked RTM version. Furthermore I am waiting for my free key to make this Pro installation the Media Center Edition.

Easy to dual boot windows 7 #1 and Windows 8 #2, just like dual boot in XP and Vista or XP and Win 7 or Win7 HP and Win 7 Ult.

you can not do it with the upgrade offer.... you have to find a standard edition of Windows 8....

1. while in Windows 7 - insert the media and when ask to install - continue to where your ask to "UPGRADE" or "Custom" chose Custom and select a new partition..
then you will have the option to chose your boot OS...

2. you can swap the default boot by using MSCONFIG...

my current boot is:
Windows 8 Pro (F:\Windows) : Current OS;Default OS
Windows 8 Ent (C:\Windows)

PS: you can also have X86 on one partition and x64 on another Partition...

this makes no sense! i did a clean install with the windows 8 pro upgrade. once you reach this screen choose the Custom install option

chose the partition you want win 8 on

then your drive options

if you need to create a new partition

you can also format an existing partion here once these decision are made

you are off and running.

apparently you saved the DL to ISO or USB, there was rumors that M$ was changing some stuff ... or maybe I missed a memo. either way.
that sounds GREAT... On the testing ... I always saved to ISO, then modified to make bootable (since upgrade only was in BOLD) ... then burnt to USB... that way I could CLEAN install or UPGRADE.

i too always say to iso guess since i am from old school.
