Twice is a month is good. An extraordinary target to aim for when it comes to software updates. But for software that is in development, it is a brave and courageous strategy.
But this is exactly what Microsoft is employing.
Windows 9 Preview, the very public build of the upcoming operating system is expected to go live in less than a month from now. It will come with rather limited functionality from the onset, meaning many of the features that we have been talking about will not be there in the premiere version.
However, this new strategy of frequently updating the original Windows 9 Preview build (instead of releasing new test versions every time they are done) brings at least a couple of advantages.
First, it ensures that everyone is running the latest preview version.
And it also means that users that try out Windows 9 Preview will not be required to perform installs, or clean installs for that matter, regularly.
The Verge is reporting that since Redmond wants the development process to advance at a really brisk pace, the company is planning to update the preview version of the operating system twice a month. Now, this does make sense when you consider the release date.
There have been several hints that Windows 9 scheduled for arrival early next year, April 2015. And if this timeframe is to be reached, then some urgency here is just what the doctor ordered.
