Microsoft Demos Windows 10 UI For Small Tablets
« on: May 05, 2015, 02:48:54 PM »

If you’ve been looking forward to see the Windows 10 UI Microsoft has planned for smaller tablets, then you’re in luck. The currently ongoing Ignite conference provided us with some insights.

The opening keynote of the Chicago event was packed with demos that showed off many of the new features in the upcoming operating system — everything from subtle UI improvements to a redefined update process for enterprises.

However, Joe Belfiore also took the opportunity to show off how Windows 10 works on small tablets, those with screen sizes 8-inch and small.

Here’s a video for your viewing pleasure:

Neat.

Belfiore also showcased how docking these smaller devices provides the same experience as one with a larger screen. And that is due to the fact that these 8-inch machines are powered by the full version of Windows 10, not a stripped down iteration as was the case with Windows 8.

This means that they run quite similar to a traditional desktop PC.

And while Microsoft has not actually released such a tablet, other vendors including Dell and Lenovo are keen on devices with this display size. Not to mention the various Chinese hardware makers.

We are bound to see new 8-inch hardware powered by Windows 10 later this year, and judging by how things are shaping up, the new OS looks set to provide a streamlined experience.
