Windows 10 Feature And Functionality Updates Will Be Free
« on: May 28, 2015, 04:16:37 AM »
Again, this has been confirmed several times the last few months, but once again, Microsoft have made it clear that Windows 10 feature and functionality updates will be free for consumers.

The software titan will not charge users for these.

This has been a key talking point of the new operating system, particularly as the company already has a subscription model in place with Office 365. Not to mention other products Redmond require ongoing payments. The question certainly has merit.

But Microsoft made it crystal clear on a staging site for Windows 10, saying:

Quote
“And even better: once a qualified Windows device is upgraded to Windows 10, we will continue to keep it up to date for the supported lifetime of the device, keeping it more secure, and introducing new features and functionality over time – for no additional charge.”
As distinct and ringing a confirmation, as one can hope for.

By the way, you can check out the details on this new website for the upcoming OS here.

Hopefully this puts end to some of the talk claiming that Microsoft is giving Windows 10 away for free, with the intention of trying to dig up money from users for new features and updates in the future, and all that kind of stuff.

That’s not to say that Microsoft may not offer in-OS purchases of some sorts, but this is a strategy that is yet to be defined.

For now, the primary mode of revenue generation from consumers remains the licensing fees from OEMs, as well as sales of apps and games from the Windows Store.
