Windows 10 SDKs Add New Features
« on: July 01, 2015, 02:53:18 PM »
As the numbers spin around on the preview versions, so the Windows 10 Software Development Kit keeps pace, allowing developers to take advantage of more features as they become available to users.

Among the new features of the latest SDK are a range of new features and improvements for the PC’s or tablet’s cameras, with new capture and advanced photo APIs allow coders to add in HDR capture from cameras that support the feature.

Or, if there’s no hardware HDR, a software version of HDR can be enabled for great and moody lighting shots.

Additionally, developers can access the color, image depth, or the camera’s data. This can be used when setting up Windows for facial recognition, which should be a smart way of logging on to Windows after general release.

There’s also a new Photo Import tool to make it easier to grab images from smartphones, memory cards and other media. It runs as a background task, so won’t eat into the user’s time when dumping large numbers of photos from a source.

Expect the SDK releases to keep pace with Microsoft’s internal builds, but we suspect all the key apps that will show off the new features of Windows 10 are already feature complete and ready to launch with the OS.

That way Microsoft can show off all the cool toys like facial recognition, and developers getting revved up for Visual Studio 2015 will be on the ball for their apps.
