The Verge is reporting that Windows 10 has reached RTM ahead of its July 29th launch, and WinBeta is able to confirm that this has indeed happened. In fact, we heard that Windows 10 had been confirmed as hitting RTM on Sunday. The RTM is what Microsoft considers a ready product to begin distributing to the public, and has already began distributing the RTM build to a number of partners and OEMs. Windows Insiders are set to receive the Windows 10 RTM on July 29th, just as it starts rolling out to the public.

Windows 10 has been in development for over a year now, which makes Windows 10's development the shortest ever development cycle for a major Windows version. The typical development cycle of a major version of Windows is about 3 years, so for Microsoft to get Windows 10 out to the public after only 1 year of development is impressive. Admittedly, a number of features which were slated for RTM are now coming in future updates, but that's not so bad.

For those interested, the RTM build is 10240. We have a screenshot gallery already up if you want to take a look. We'll also have a video soon.

It isn’t yet clear if Microsoft will be releasing Windows 10 Build 101240 to Insiders, however, there’s a pretty good chance. It’s worth noting that the latest build doesn’t seem to include any new feature, despite the big build number jump. However, the build presumably includes a handful of bugs and performance improvements.
