How to open various Settings pages directly in Windows 10
« on: July 25, 2015, 11:43:17 PM »
The Settings app in Windows 10 replaces the classic Control Panel. It consists of many pages and inherits a lot of classic settings. Almost every Settings page has its own URI, which stands for Uniform Resource Identifier. This allows you to open any Settings page directly with a special command. In this article, I would like to share the list of Settings pages URIs (ms-settings) available in Windows 10.

To launch the desired page of the Settings app directly, you need to do the following:

1. Press Win + R to open the Run dialog.

2. Type or copy-paste the appropriate command into the Run box. The list of commands is available below. For example, use the following command to open the Colors settings page directly:

Quote
ms-settings:colors

This will open the Colors settings page directly:

ms-settings: is a special protocol which can be used to open Settings pages and other Modern apps which have well known URIs. Here is the list of URIs for pages of the Settings app.

With Windows 10, there are still two areas to configure settings  -- the old school Control Panel and the new Settings app. For those of you who wish to access the old school Control Panel app, simply right click on the Start button and select Control Panel. Otherwise, let's focus on the new Settings app.

Each setting in the Settings app has a unique identifier called a URI. If we extract this URI, we can easily use it in a run command or as a desktop shortcut. All you have to do is pick one of the URIs listed below, right click on your desktop, select New, then select Shortcut, and paste the URI into the location field (the URI starts with "ms-settings"). You can also choose an icon for your new shortcut by right-clicking on the shortcut, and selecting properties. Then click the "Change Icon" button.

Here is the list of URIs (courtesy of WinAero) you can use to create desktop shortcuts to your commonly used settings:
