Now Nvidia Update Bug Causes Windows 10 Issues
« on: July 28, 2015, 05:35:22 PM »
Microsoft’s forced automatic update scheme must have sounded so good in the Windows 10 strategy meeting. What’s not to like about everyone being on the latest version of all security, driver and software updates?

Well, so far there’s a perilous .Net failing, a raft of other issues and now Nvidia driver updates are causing all sorts of problems, as highlighted on the company’s driver forums.

With issues such as loss of secondary GPUs, no custom resolutions, crashes, issues with multi-monitor support and so on. There’s a lot to fix, and not much time before launch.

Handily Microsoft’s decision to back track on this forced install update idea should help, when the but was it really much of an incentive to users in the first place?

PCs aren’t smartphones! There are dozens of little quirks and tweaks that users may like in one feature that won’t be in an update. In this case, Microsoft was trying to update, while Nvidia’s own system was trying to downgrade.

Updates across millions of different chipsets, Nvidia cards and other devices can have many different implications, so no Microsoft, it really wasn’t a good idea, no matter what you thought.

Usually Nvidia is pretty quick when it comes to fixes, so we hope this will be a minor blip on the road, to launch, but so close to the event, who knows.
