« on: September 14, 2009, 04:25:02 AM »

Yesterday, Palm Pre enthusiasts got to know that webOS 1.2.0 update was accidentally pushed to one of the Pre users. According to the latest news from Sprint’s support page, webOS 1.2.0 update for Palm Pre is due later today. The update from Sprint is dubbed as Sprint Config 1.8 and can be found by opening ‘App Launcher’, then tapping ‘Updates’ option on the Palm Pre phone.

Out of the features that surfaced in the webOS 1.2.0 leak, only enhanced copy-paste in browser was mentioned in the release notes. No mention was made about LED notifications and remote app removal by Palm. However, several improvements are listed in the release notes which focus mainly on search, media support and contacts syncing.

The updates and enhancements are listed below:

Enhanced copy feature added to browser and email (shift key + tap and drag to select text).
Improved global search to catch synonyms. For example, “Movies” brings up YouTube and Videos.
Send/Receive vCards via the contacts application (tap left menu drop down)
LinkedIn enhancements
Filter search in email
Bluetooth for expanded car-kit support
Improved auto-linking of contacts
Save inline images in email
Resume support for podcasts and long songs
Download files in browser
Backup/Restore of web browser bookmarks
Support Amazon MP3 over WAN (not just WiFi)
Photo Albums sync via Media Sync

Along with these updates and enhancements, webOS 1.2.0 will also fix a number of issues. The bugs in email, calendar, music downloads, contacts, and sync issues will be taken care of. The update details have been put up on the Sprint support page and today’s date is mentioned along with it. Pre-thinking site has a full list of the changes expected with webOS 1.2.0 update.

Palm Pre users can check for the webOS 1.2.0 update later.

Sprint pulled down the $100 service credit offer for new subscribers that buy a Palm Pre smartphone from their website stating it was publishing error. James Fisher, Sprint spokesman, said that the offer, which would have translated into a 50 percent price cut for the phone just a few months after it went on sale, was published by mistake.
