Microsoft Reveals How To Remove Get Windows 10 App
« on: December 09, 2015, 09:43:23 PM »
Microsoft revealed the Get Windows 10 app earlier this year in order to facilitate (and well, entice) Windows 7 and 8.1 users to upgrade to the newest version of the operating system.

This small program streamlines the process of downloading and installing the new OS.

It’s a handy solution for those that want to upgrade — but others prefer not seeing these notifications if they do not plan to install Windows 10 now. No surprises then that Redmond has been flooded with complaints from users about this.

Well, a Microsoft support engineer has posted the easiest way to block these notifications on the company’s Community forum.

Probably the first time the software titan has provided guidance or recommended users to remove Get Windows 10 app from their computers.

As Anil Madishetty explains, it all comes down to these three steps:

► Firing up the Registry Editor by typing “regedit” in the Start Menu.

► Navigating to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Gwx.

► Creating a new REG_DWORD value called “DisableGwx” and inputting value “1”.

That’s practically it.

Reboot your PC or your device, and these notifications will no longer show up.

Not exactly new instructions, but they come via Microsoft, and at least, show that the company is willing to provide users with steps to block upgrade notifications if they want to.
