News is coming in that Redmond has released two new patches that force the Windows 10 upgrade on Windows 7 and 8.1 computers, enabling the nags or messages, what have you on these PCs.
With the free Windows 10 upgrade deadline of July 29 looming, the company has good reason to ramp up its efforts to convince users to deploy the new operating system.
And word is that the infamous
KB3035583 has re-enabled on a number of computers.
This patch started flying off servers yesterday, and today it has been joined by KB3150513, which is another patch that activates the Get Windows 10 app and displays the upgrade message on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 powered PCs.
The
description Microsoft has put up for this patch does not offer too many details, however:
“This update provides updated configuration and definitions for compatibility diagnostics performed on the system. The updated definitions will improve accuracy and help enable Microsoft and its partners ensure compatibility for customers who want to install the latest Windows operating system. This update will be offered only if KB2977759, KB2952664, or KB2976978 is installed on Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1), or Windows 7 RTM.”
General, casual stuff.
Of course, this is also a necessary update for many, those that are planning to upgrade to Windows 10 within the next couple of months. In that it scans for compatibility issues before the installation of the new operating system.
However, those of you that still plan to delay the move, for one reason or another, will be advised to hide both
KB3150513 and
KB3035583 from Windows Update on your machines.
Nevertheless, the time to make a decision is approaching fast.
