Amid some fairly tough competition, too. Surface Book has received the ‘Laptop of the Year’ award from T3, with nominees including several of the premium notebooks that are currently available on the market.
The Surface Book is the first attempt from Microsoft at a Windows 10 powered notebook, and the judges were most impressed by its clever design.
Several competitors vied for this award, including the 12-inch MacBook. The Apple machine was actually the only laptop included in the nominees that was not running Windows 10. The rest of the devices were the usual.
Dell XPS 12, Lenovo Yoga 900S, HP Spectre x360 and the Acer Aspire Switch 12 S.
The judges explained why the decided to hand the award to the Microsoft Surface Book:
“A lot of eyebrows were raised, and a lot of jaws hit the floor when Microsoft launched its first own-brand laptop, and the Surface Book has impressed us enough since then to earn the Laptop of the Year Award. You can tell that this is Microsoft’s attempt to show its hardware partners how it should be done in the Windows 10 era – that clever hinge, that detachable screen… power and portability together in one complete computer. Yes, there were issues with it, but it was a brave step forward by the Redmond company, and we’re already excited about Surface Book 2.”
Of course, this does not take into account the exuberant pricing of the machine, which Redmond continues to sell at a premium — despite the Surface Book being a year old now.
The retail price starts at $1,499 in the United States, and goes up to $3,200.
But the device is certainly an excellent creation, one of the finest on the market right now. Fine enough to deservedly earn this Laptop of the Year award.
