Lost contents of "All Programs" on start menu
« on: April 10, 2009, 10:21:01 AM »
Did anyone else lose the contents of All Programs on the Start Menu after upgrading to 7077? The menu is blank, but if I right click on "all programs" and select Open I can see all my programs. They just don't show on the menu. I upgraded from the official beta 1 build 7000.

Not sure if this will help, did you upgrade from an x32 to a x64 when i did this on some earlyer builds it places programs and other bits from your x32 build into a separate folder so you can still access them but they don't appear in the menu's.

Hope this helps

No. I didn't upgrade from x32 to x64. I didn't even know that was possible.

I am confused here... what is an x32???

I thought it was x86 (32 bit) or x64 (64 bit)

If you look in  C:\Program files     Are your files still there?

might be C:\x86 Program files

Either which way are your files still there at all?

Oops I meant x86. But at any rate my files are still there. It's only the entries on the menu that are gone.

Ignore my earlier post not sure what happened but when i installed a x64 build over my 32bit build it carried over a folder called program files not sure how very suspicious so i killdisk'ed my hard drive and started again.

Sorry for confusion

How did you manage to upgrade a 32 bit to 64? If you insert the 64 bit install disk while running the 32 bit version it just tells you that setup can't run in this version of windows. If you boot from the dvd you don't get an option to upgrade. Only a clean install. So just how did you do it?

Never mind. I gave up and restored my backup of 7100 which works fine.
