ReBirth is a 12 year old PC app that emulates a series of classic drum machines, allowing you to make digital music with a computer. This week, the folks behind the original ReBirth app ported it to the iPhone and iPod touch (
http://rebirthapp.com/). It’s available for download from the App Store (
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/rebirth/id368199125?mt=8)for $6.99, which is pretty crazy given all the functionality that the app has.
It includes several virtual drum machines, bassline synths, a series of digital effects including distortion, compression, and pattern control, automation, and all the tools you need to create and edit songs on your mobile device.
The down side is that while you can import projects from the PC version of of ReBirth to your iPhone, you can’t go the other way around. The only way to save songs you create on a mobile device is to save the projects as iPhone projects or make a recording of the finished song.
You also have to deal with the fact that the user interface was clearly designed for a larger screen. But in some ways it should actually be easier to control the knobs and dials with your finger than with a mouse and keyboard.
With apple approving this APP, doesn't it make apple inc. and its Fascist/Dictator ruler into LIARS?
Apple changed its iPhone developers agreement last month to prohibit the use of cross-platform development tools, such as Flash. The change precludes iPhone app developers from making one universal app that can be ported to a variety of mobile App Stores
