It's Official: HTC EVO 4G Approved By FCC
« on: May 10, 2010, 07:52:41 AM »

No one was worried that Sprint would have trouble getting regulatory approval for its first 4G phone, so it's mainly a symbolic move that the FCC has given its OK to the HTC EVO.

The device will run on a 2500 MHz band from Sprint and Clearwire, the first mobile phone to do so. That's the wireless WiMax network that will enable the EVO to download files at more than 10 times the speed of today's standard 3G networks.

Sprint's FCC filing is also the first time that we've seen the official model number. For that purpose, it is the HTC PC36100.

The phone is set to come out some time in June though an official release date hasn't been announced. Pre-orders will begin later this month.

The phone is expected to retail for around $200, but no one is yet sure how much a 4G data plan will cost.
