HTC Accuses Apple of Patent Infringments!
« on: May 16, 2010, 05:57:32 PM »
Less than 2 months since Apple sued HTC over patent infringements, the Taiwanese smart-phone maker has filed a counter complaint against Apple for infringing upon 5 of their patents related to mobile phones and devices. HTC has filed a complaint with the United States International Trade Commission in Washington on Wednesday asking for a ban on imports of Apple’s iPhone, iPad and iPod products into the United States.
In a press release, Jason Mackenzie, vice president for North America at HTC, said:

As the innovator of the original Windows Mobile PocketPC Phone Edition in 2002 and the first Android smartphone in 2008, HTC believes the industry should be driven by healthy competition and innovation that offer consumers the best, most accessible mobile experiences possible.
He added:

We are taking this action against Apple to protect our intellectual property, our industry partners, and most importantly our customers that use HTC phones.
At present we do not have any additional details about the patents infringed by Apple. A spokeswoman for HTC said the company would release more details about its complaint shortly.

In March 2010, Apple had filed a suite with the trade commission and also with the United States District Court in Delaware claiming that HTC had stolen aspects of the iPhone’s user interface, internal architecture and hardware.
