Windows 7 Pirates to Get Security Updates
« on: May 01, 2009, 04:37:54 PM »

Much like a loving mother, Microsoft will let no harm come to Windows 7, making all copies of the OS, legitimate or otherwise (read: pirated) eligible for security updates. Softpedia reports that Microsoft’s Director of Windows Client Enterprise Security said as much in a recent Q and A.

“Let me be clear: all security updates go to all users. Not only do all security updates go to all users' systems, but non-genuine Windows systems are able to install service packs, update rollups, and important reliability and application compatibility updates,” Cook stated.

Though, Softpedia is quick to point out that many pirated copies of Windows 7 will have malware already on them, and that no Microsoft security update can protect the user from them.

Cook went on to claim that most security malware threats became issues after Microsoft had already released the security update addressing them, for example Conficker. He stressed that security breaches are most often due to lax oversight by owners and operators, not Microsoft.
